Menggapai Impian Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS 2008 (18 Dec 2008) PDF Print E-mail

PETRONAS places great emphasis in undertaking its corporate social responsibility on the surrounding communities where it has its operations locally and abroad.

Similarly, the University shares the value espoused by PETRONAS and today, for the second time since last year, it has taken the initiative to conduct a programme called ‘Menggapai Impian’ which is designed with the aim of enhancing the learning experience of the underprivileged in order for them to enjoy a better learning environment. Under this initiative, UTP staff volunteers adopted a child before the school semester starts and sponsored the child with a minimum of RM100.00 in the form of stationeries, schoolbags, uniforms and shoes for the preparation for the new school semester.

56 students from two homes which are Rumah Kanak-kanak Sultan Abdul Aziz, Kuala Kangsar and Rumah Anak-anak Yatim Maahad Tahfiz Al Taufi Qiah, Kg. Boyan, Taiping benefited from this programme. It is hoped that this contribution will lessen the burden of the 2 homes and will encourage the children to work harder.

This programme will also benefit the staff as one way to keep up with the spirit of sharing and giving to those in need. For Cik Nurul Wahidah Hood from Postgraduate Office, she has been waiting to participate for Menggapai Impian 2008 since she has missed it last year. Therefore, for this year she adopted 2 children namely Adik Mohd Arman Arif, 4 years old and Adik Nor Shafiqah Mohd Rosli, 6 years old. Both of them from Rumah Kanak-kanak Sultan Abdul Aziz, Kuala Kangsar. .

Professor Dr Vladimir Piven of Research Enterprise Office adopted five children and he hoped that he will be able to sponsor more children next year. Coincidentally, this programme is conducted in conjunction with Christmas celebration, which is a festival of joy and sharing, and the event appropriately reflects the spirit of this celebration.
