PETRONAS-UTP Science Communication December 2008 (1 - 19 Dec 2008) PDF Print E-mail


20 UTP students (16 international and 4 local students) participated in the PETROSAINS – UTP Science Communication Programme December 2008 which was held on 1 – 19 December 2008. This programme was organised by PETROSAINS in collaboration with UTP and PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Unit (ESU). The international students involved were from Cambodia, Sudan, South Africa, Egypt, Mozambique, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Thailand.


The main objectives of this programme are to stimulate participants’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is also to develop crucial process science skills, to enhance communication and presentation skills; and to provide them with exposure to an educational working environment.



The participants were immersed in a variety of activities which include workshops, research, construction, problem solving, writing, public speaking and educational visits to the National Science Centre and other interesting places.


The closing ceremony or better known as the Graduation Day – Batch December 2008 was held on Friday, 19 December 2008 at Theater Ungku Omar, PETROSAINS, Level 5, Suria KLCC which was attended by Mr. James Robert Bell, Director of Learning Centre, PETROSAINS and Tuan Haji Mohd Noor Rosli, Director, Student Support Services of UTP.


During the closing ceremony, besides the usual certificates and award presentation to all participants, there were also a slide/video presentation prepared by the participants and experience sharing session by the “Best Science Communicator” for both categories; Abdullah Shamil from Iraq and Sarun Munsiela from Cambodia for male and female categories respectively.


At the end of the ceremony, all 5 groups consisting of 4 participants each presented their science project to all guests
