Bachelor of Science (Honours)

Applied Chemistry

Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Chemistry is a full-time programme offered by the Department of Fundamental and Applied Sciences (DFAS) where the entry requirement is UTP’s Foundation Studies program or any other equivalent qualifications (STPM, A-level, Matriculation, and others). English is the medium of instruction, with exception to some national requirement courses that will be delivered in Bahasa Malaysia and also other language courses such as French and others.

In line with UTP’s mission statements, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Chemistry is developed to prepare skilled knowledge workers to meet the industry’s need especially in the areas of Petrochemistry, Sustainable Chemistry and Nanotechnology. The 3.5-year programme is also enriched with the offer of a 7-month Industrial Internship Training for all students either locally or internationally.

This program will address the nation’s call to produce more scientists and technologists in our move towards high income society.  DFAS faculty members comprised of qualified and experienced teaching staffs with background in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to nurture the students into becoming competent and innovative graduates.  Career opportunities for the graduates are enormous from the industries, government, academia and R&D sectors. These include Analytical Chemists, Computational Chemists, Quality Control Chemists, Process Engineers and Research Scientists, to name a few.

Applied Physics

A-Level or equivalent

  • Pass A-Level with at least Grade C in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

  • Pass International Baccalaureate (IB) with minimum 24 Points including at least Point 4 in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry;

Matriculation

  • Pass Matriculation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00


OR


Foundation in Relevant Field from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS

  • Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS with at least a final CGPA of 2.00/4.00;

 

OR

Foundation in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution

  • Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00/4.00;

 

OR

Diploma in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution

  • Pass a Diploma Program (Level 4, Malaysian Qualifications Framework-MQF) in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 3.00 / 4.00;

Higher National Diploma (HND) from Other IPT Recognized by the Malaysian Government

  • Pass Higher National Diploma (HND) {Level 4, Malaysian Qualifications Framework-MQF} in relevant field with at least Merit Grade or 60%

Australian Matriculation Program

Pass Australian Matriculation Program with at least Grade C (OR 60%) in Mathematics OR Specialised Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry:

  • Year 12 Certificate, Australian Capital Territory
  • Higher School Certificate (HSC), New South Wales
  • Northern Territory Certificate Education (NTSE)
  • Queensland Senior Certificate
  • South Australian Certificate of Education
  • Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE)

Additional Requirement for International Students:

  • Application must be made using the final examination semester results.
  • English requirement - IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL paper base score 550 or equivalent.
  • English Placement Test (EPT) will be conducted to assess the applicant’s level of English proficiency.In some cases, student will be required to enrol for Intensive English Class Course at UTP before proceeding to Undergraduate Programme

a) Medical check-up is chargeable separately, at (RM250.00 + RM15.00 (GST) = RM265.00) (approximately) per person. The medical check-up to be conducted one time at UTP, upon registration.


b) The tuition fee is chargeable based on the number of credit hours registered for each semester.  The cost for a credit hour is stated below :

 

  • Intensive English Course - RM240/credit hour

What are the entry qualifications for admission into Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS ?

a) Undergraduate in Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience, & Science

A-Level or equivalent

Pass A-Level with at least Grade C (60% and above) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

b) Undergraduate in Technology

A-Level or equivalent

Pass A-Level with at least Grade C (60% and above) in Mathematics AND any two (2) non-language subjects.

* Note

  • Applicants who failed to meet our academic requirements will not be considered for admission placement at our university.
  • Besides the academic requirements mentioned above,  applicants are also required to fulfill our English requirements of IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL paper-based score of 550 or IBT of 80.   Applicants must enclose their English certification (IELTS or TOEFL) together with their application form.
  • English Placement Test (EPT) will be conducted to assess the applicant’s level of English proficiency.In some cases, student will be required to enrol for Intensive English Class Course at UTP before proceeding to Undergraduate Programme

When is the date of commencement for the next academic session?

Successful applicants will be notified on the date of the commencement of their respective academic session through their Offer Letters.

What is the method of application?

Applicants must fill-up the *application form and send  it together with the required documents to UTP via post or email. Applicants are advised to read the procedure of application on How to Apply/ Application Form before applyingYour application will only be processed once you have submitted the completed application form together with the supporting documents.

When is the closing date of application?

Application is open throughout the year. To apply for admission into our intake sessions (May and September), application form must reach us before the given deadline. Allocation of placement in the next intake will be subjected to availability of placement.

I have submitted my application. What is the next process?

If you are shortlisted for our programme, you will be required to attend our assessment session of which the date and venue of the said assessment will be made known later. Only successful candidates will be issued with their respective Offer Letters.

When are we supposed to pay the tuition fee?

The registration fees stated below need to be settled by new students before OR on the day of the registration date. Students will be given until 2 weeks before the Final Semester Examination begins to make payment on the remaining tuition fees for the particular semester.

How often do I need to pay the tuition fees and how much do I need to pay each time?

Payment can be made each semester from the beginning of the semester until 2 weeks before the Final Semester Examination. The total tuition fee is based on the number of credit hours registered in the particular semester based on the following calculation:

 

Undergraduate – RM485/credit hour with maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.

Will there be in campus accommodation available?

Yes. Student will be provided with accommodation for their whole education period in UTP.
