Bachelor of Technology (Honours)


Business Information Systems

This programme focuses on providing sound knowledge and experience in business management systems analysis and design methods, database management systems and commercial applications with opportunities to specialise in e-business and knowledge management. Throughout the programme there is also emphasis on ways to control and manage appropriate software in order to support business decision-making and to communicate effectively in commercial and business environment.

 

Students are equipped with relevant business management tools to take on the challenges of the global business scenario via the minor electives offered financial management or corporate management.

 

In later years of study, students will have the opportunity to major in one of these selected areas:

Information and Communication Technology

This programme provides students with fundamental knowledge and practical skills of computer technologies especially in programming, multimedia, network and software engineering. Throughout the programme there is also emphasis on how students could blend their technical expertise with management know-how in order to support business decision-making and to communicate effectively in commercial and business environment.

 

In later years of study, students will have the opportunity to major in one of these selected areas:

Petroleum Geoscience

The focus of this programme is on the exploration phase, its development and production. The programme curriculum will provide the students with a strong understanding of geology and geophysics in relation to petroleum discovery and exploration and later the students are able to apply this fundamental to solve geosciences related problem.

Entry Requirement

 

A-Level or equivalent

  • Pass A-Level with at least Grade C in Mathematics and any two (2) non-language subjects; AND
  • At least Grade C in Mathematics at SPM;

 

OR

International Baccalaureate (IB)

  • Pass International Baccalaureate (IB) with at least Point 4 in Mathematics and any two (2) non-language subjects;

 

OR

 

Foundation in Relevant Field from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS

  • Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from Universiti Teknologi PTERONAS with at least a final CGPA of 2.00/4.00; AND
  • At least Grade C in Mathematics at SPM;

 

OR

Foundation in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution

  • Pass Foundation Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 2.00/4.00; AND
  • At least Grade C in Mathematics at SPM;

 

OR

 

Diploma in Relevant Field from a Recognized Institution

  • Pass a Diploma Program in relevant field from an Institution which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with at least a final CGPA of 2.00/4.00; AND
  • At least Grade C in Mathematics at SPM;

Australian Matriculation Program

Pass Australian Matriculation Program with at least Grade C in Mathematics OR Specialised Mathematics and any two (2) other non-language subjects:
  • Year 12 Certificate, Australian Capital Territory;
  • Higher School Certificate (HSC), New South Wales;
  • Northern Territory Certificate Education (NTSE);
  • Queensland Senior Certificate;
  • South Australian Certificate of Education;
  • Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TSE);

Additional Requirement for International Students:

  • Application must be made using the final examination semester results.
  • English requirement - IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL paper base score 550 or equivalent, OR
  • English Placement Test (EPT) will be conducted to assess the applicant’s level of English proficiency. In some cases, student will be required to enroll for Intensive English Course at UTP before proceeding to Foundation or Undergraduate Programme.

Note:

 

a) Medical check-up is chargeable separately, at (RM250.00 + RM15.00 (GST) = RM265.00) (approximately) per person. The medical check-up to be conducted one time at UTP, upon registration.


b) The tuition fee is chargable based on number of credit hour registered for each semester.  The cost for a credit hour is stated below:

 

  • Intensive English Course - RM240/credit hour
  • Undergraduate Programmes - RM485/credit hour

 

c) Total Credit Hours to be completed through the academic programme are as stated below:

 

  • Intensive English Course - 12 credit hours (One Semester Programme). 24 credit hours (Two semester programme)

What are the entry qualifications for admission into Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS ?

a) Undergraduate in Engineering


A-Level or equivalent

Pass A-Level with at least Grade C (60% and above) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

b) Undergraduate in Technology

A-Level or equivalent

Pass A-Level with at least Grade C (60% and above) in Mathematics AND any two (2) non-language subjects.


*Note

  • Applicants who failed to meet our academic requirements will not be considered for admission placement at our university.
  • Besides the academic requirements mentioned above, applicants are also required to fulfill our English requirements of IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL paper-based score of 550 or IBT of 80.Applicants must enclose their English certification (IELTS or TOEFL) together with their application form.
  • English Placement Test (EPT) will be conducted to assess the applicant’s level of English proficiency.In some cases, student will be required to enrol for Intensive English Class Course at UTP before proceeding to Undergraduate Programme

When is the date of commencement for the next academic session?

Successful applicants will be notified on the date of the commencement of their respective academic session through their  Offer Letters.

4.

What is the method of application?

Applicants must fill-up the *application form and send  it together with the required documents to UTP via post or email. Applicants are advised to read the procedure of application on How to Apply/ Application Form before applying. Your application will only be processed once you have submitted the completed application form together with the supporting documents.

5.

When is the closing date of application?

Application is open throughout the year. To apply for admission into our intake sessions (May & September), application form must reach us before the given deadline. Allocation of placement in the next intake will be subjected to availability of placement.

6.

I have submitted my application. What is the next process?

If you are shortlisted for our programme, you will be required to attend our assessment session of which the date and venue of the said assessment will be made known later. Only successful candidates will be issued with their respective Offer Letters.

When are we supposed to pay the tuition fee?

The registration fees stated below need to be settled by new students before  OR on the day of the registration date. Students will be given until 2 weeks before the Final Semester Examination begins to make payment on the remaining tuition fees for the particular semester.

How often do I need to pay the tuition fees and how much do I need to pay each time?

Payment can be made each semester from the beginning of the semester until 2 weeks before the Final Semester Examination. The total tuition fee is based on the number of credit hours registered in the particular semester based on the following calculation:

 

Undergraduate – RM485/credit hour with maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.

11.

Will there be in campus accommodation available?

Yes. Student will be provided with accommodation for their whole education period in UTP.
