1. Introduction

The programme focuses on the application of engineering principles to the design, construction and operation of industrial processing plants that deals with chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical, semiconductor and food processing. Students will apply in-depth technical knowledge for problem identification, interpret, evaluate and improve system performance of a plant operation.


2. Programme Educational Objectives

 

  • To produce technically qualified Chemical Engineers with the potential to become leaders of chemical process and allied industries.
  • To produce Chemical Engineers who are committed to sustainable development of chemical process and allied industries for the betterment of society and nation.

 



3. Programme Outcomes


To produce graduates with the following outcomes:

 

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and engineering specialisations to the solution of complex chemical engineering problems

  • Identify, formulate, research literature and analyse complex chemical engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences

  • Design solutions for complex chemical engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations

  • Investigate complex  chemical engineering problems using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions

  • Select and apply modern engineering and IT tools to evaluate complex chemical engineering activities

  • Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice

  • Understand the relationship of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development

  • Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, responsibilities and norms of chemical engineering practice

  • Communicate clearly on complex chemical engineering activities with the engineering community and society

  • Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings

  • Recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering management, business acumen and entrepreneurship in multidisciplinary environments

 



4. Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate with the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Chemical degree, students are required to obtain a minimum of 145credit hours and a minimum CGPA of 2.00.
